Meet Ian Edwards
Founder of iSEND Specialist | International SENCO | Specialist Assessor | Inclusion & Learning Development Consultant
Education is evolving faster than ever. The challenge is no longer simply understanding how learners learn today, but anticipating how they will learn, think and thrive tomorrow.
I am a UK-trained educator, NASENCO-qualified SENCO and postgraduate Level 7 specialist assessor with over 20 years of experience across British and international education. My career has taken me through the UK, Asia, the Middle East and Europe, working across teaching, whole-school SEND leadership, specialist assessment and educational development.
My professional expertise includes cognitive and learning assessments, examination access arrangements, inclusive teaching, executive-function development, regulation and wellbeing, intervention planning and professional training.
Having worked directly with learners, families, teachers and school leadership teams, I understand that successful inclusion depends on much more than identifying additional needs. It requires a clear understanding of how people think, process information, organise themselves, regulate and engage with learning, together with the systems and relationships that make effective support possible.
This understanding shapes my work through iSEND Specialist.
Alongside specialist assessment and strategic consultancy, I use educational coaching, mentoring and evidence-informed approaches to support independence, self-awareness, executive functioning and regulation. These are established elements of my professional practice and reflect my belief that meaningful progress comes from developing both the learner and the environment in which they learn.
Looking Ahead
I am particularly interested in the changing relationship between human cognition, neurodiversity, artificial intelligence and the future of inclusive education.
As AI becomes increasingly embedded in learning, I believe schools will need to look beyond technological efficiency and consider its wider implications for cognitive development, independent thinking, accessibility and the role of educators.
My ongoing professional development explores these emerging challenges alongside advances in learning science, regulation and wellbeing. The aim is to build on established educational expertise and remain responsive to the changing needs of learners and schools.
I believe the future of inclusive education lies in connecting experience, evidence and innovation, while maintaining the human relationships and professional judgement that make learning meaningful.
Through iSEND Specialist, my ambition is to help schools and families respond confidently to today's needs while preparing thoughtfully for the opportunities and challenges ahead.
Understanding how learners think today. Anticipating how they will learn tomorrow.
